As Apple moves further and further into becoming an i"device" company (iTv, iPod, iPhone, etc), the Apple software stack is just not that compelling any more. My wife just switched from OS X to Ubuntu full time (I still use OS X... for now, because I need Photoshop for work), and she has been a Mac user for over 15 years. The open sourcing of Safari would be a non-event, since the source code is largely obsolete compared to Firefox. Even the once ubiquitous quicktime is steadily losing mindshare. It has been years since I have seen any sites outside of Apple.com use it for playing videos.
