BarCampESM Wrap Up BarCampESM Wrap Up

Document Actions
This past weekend saw many of systems management's brightest gather to discuss some of the most pressing issues in systems management.

Even though I'm technically on vacation till February 5th I wanted to post a short wrap up on last weekends BarCampESM event. Let me start by thinking my co-organizers Mark Hinkle (now to be known only as 'mhinkle') and John Willis (now to be known only as 'jwillis').

This was the first ever gathering of the "who's who" of enterprise systems management. This was great since even thought a multi-billion dollar industry where many of us don't speak to each other, let alone works together in a truly open source fashion. Even cooler was the fact that most of these folks had never even met.

So what came out of this? Well, two new projects were created under the Open Management Consortium; OMC Design Patterns, and the OMC Open Agent. These two projects (especially the design patterns) show great potential since we have contributors from both proprietary vendors and leading open source projects at a consensus on the need for these efforts.

So rather than go on and on about how revolutionary this event was, here are links to some of the other blog post about BarCampESM:

So all in all this was a great event. There's already interest in having BarCampESM events in Europe and China so look for other BarCampESM events in the near future, including BarCampESM II which is currently being plotted out by the usual list of suspects. Hopefully we'll see participation from a few more of the key open source projects and HP and CA in the future.
