Open for mainframe arrives at BMC
Wow, what a few weeks, months, and years here at BMC for mainframe system programmers and users of the mainframe. Recently, BMC released two new open source projects:
BMC Mainview data server: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mainview-ds/
BMC VMLMAT: http://vmlmat.sourceforge.net
This week we saw the release of VMLMAT. This was code I had written with the system administrator in mind to faciliate our R&D customers here at BMC and to help us, the system admins, that supported this group. The code was written as procedural scripts without the need for databases or object oriented coding. It is designed for the non-programmer system admin who knows scripting and can learn and modify this code for their own internal benefit. Steve Carl on his blog at http://talk.bmc.com did a very nice introduction to VMLMAT: http://talk.bmc.com/blogs/blog-carl/steve-carl/VMLMAT-BMC-Open-Source-tool
In the next few articles, I will give you more information regarding VMLMAT, but I also hope that I can get thedeveloper of the Mainview data server to also post an article for you. Say tuned.
I am excited and proud that BMC, being a software development company for profit, has continued to invest in open source and committed to bringing open source to the mainframe as well.
Kudos to the management team and a special thanks to Whurley in our CTO office and Steve Carl for their efforts in getting these opensource projects available to the public.
