Yeah, the ubuntu installer and bootloader sucks. You have to download the "alternate" .iso to get an installer that you can place GRUB in the root of the partition. Trust me on that.

Re-doing the X30 bootloader

The X30 was a dual boot system, with WinXP on the other side. XP has been broken for the better part of a year, but I decided to fix it by re-installing. That of course whacked the GRUB bit in the MBR of course. As Mint 2.1 just came out, I then upgraded, putting GRUB back in the MBR. Now the X30 dual boots Mint 2.1 and XP. GRUB still not in partition 1 of course, but working.
