I use OO for MS Word documents all the time, and have not had many issues with formatting over the years. Less with each release. I suppose the the level of feature use might be a factor, but I am currently working on a document with three other people, all of whom are MS Word users. We are using the markup features and are all able to see the changes we each make. No problems so far.
