"Legonic" Systems
I heard an interesting new buzzword today from Kim Cameron. He gave the Keynote at DEC 2007 and he introduced the concept of "Legonic Systems". Legonic as in Legos. Now Legos are like crack for engineers, so right away you just get the feeling this phrase is going to catch on.
But for some reason every time he said Legonic I heard Laconic. Strange.
Basically Legonic is Kim’s new term for SOA. In Kim’s Legonic world all systems are easy to connect. You can hook Legonic system together as easy as putting together... well Legos of course.
The main point of the Keynote was about identity claims and how
identities work across multiple Legonic Systems. He talked about how the
de-perimiterization of the enterprise and the expanded use of federation
will drive more systems to being claims based. He defines claims as being
assertions in doubt, which is quite a good definition. Legonic Systems, in
Kim’s view, must accept claims from multiple sources with varying degrees of
credibility.
