ITIL worship

OK, Tom, this is good. You are giving me some points to make as I try and sell this up the food chain. We can implement this in bite-sized chunks. Those are calming words, but I need to add the cost and time into my report. What do you suggest I do? I'm still shopping, not buying.

ITIL, one bite at a time...

There are many sources of information that can help you. Some come directly from BMC, but a number of the analysts (Forrester, Gartner, EMA, Aberdeen, IDG, etc) and better-known ITIL consultants (Malcolm Fry, for example) have good information about how to approach an ITIL implementation, how to decide where to start, and what costs and tasks should be anticipated along the way. For example, Forrester has several recent papers on exactly this subject. Also, this week at UserWorld, Malcolm Fry gave a session on a step-by-step approach to a CMDB implementation, and plans to publish a book on this topic (to be available in September).
